Our Story - Why We Built Before You Rent

We are a group of rental enthusiasts who learned the hard way how stressful and risky renting can be.

Our journey started when we received a letter from our landlord telling us it was time to move - he needed his apartment back. We had just one to two months to find a new place to live.

Every morning began the same way: checking rental websites for inspection times. We rearranged our work and personal schedules to attend inspections.

But inspections were short, crowded, and often clashed with each other. Each slot was only 15 minutes, and many properties were scheduled at the same time. We were constantly forced to choose one inspection over another, knowing we were missing out on potential homes.

After nearly two months of attending inspections every alternate day, we finally secured a property. We were relieved and happy. The agent was helpful and even arranged an earlier move-in date for us.

But the relief didn't last long.

From the very first day, we noticed problems. The ensuite shower would not drain properly. The balcony - the feature we loved most for its beautiful view - started flooding with water. Looking back, we remembered that during the inspection, there had been water on the balcony. The agent told us it was just rainwater clogging, and we believed it.

Soon, we realised the problem had nothing to do with rain. The balcony flooded even on dry days.

When we contacted the agent, his attitude completely changed. After answering our calls once or twice, he redirected us to different email addresses and contacts. The building manager was no help either. Responsibility kept bouncing between the owner, the agent, and the contractors. Meanwhile, we were stuck in the middle - sending emails, making calls, and living with the problem.

That's when we asked ourselves: Why isn't there a place where renters can share their real experiences before someone signs a lease?

So we built Before You Rent - a platform where renters can:

• Avoid costly and stressful mistakes.
• Make informed rental decisions.

Our goal is simple:
